The Acclimatization

Day 1

This first time is dedicated to the child to get acquainted to the new environment. The teacher will take first steps to get familiar to the child. For children easily experiencing anxiety having a parent close by is advised. An intensive exchange of the teacher and the parent makes it easier for the child to get in contact to the teacher as well.

Day 2

On day 2 the teacher tries to intensify the careful bonding to the child. Furthermore, the child will be fed and changed by the parent while the teacher is around.

Day 3

The third day is basically a copy of the second day. However, the parent should draw back step by step. This time the teacher should feed and change the child in the presence of the parent in case the child feels comfortable enough.

Day 4

Once the child is diving into play, the parent should say goodbye, leave the room and wait outside in the employees' room, just in case the child starts missing the parent. It is of most importance that the farewell is kept brief. A too long farewell can induce stress on both the child and the parent and should be prevented. If necessary the teacher will positively influence the child to calm down. In case the child reacts to the teacher the parent can leave and should come back only after approx. 30 minutes.

The fifth day mimics the fourth.
In case the separation went well the day before the parent takes a leave of one hour. The teacher will take over all actions with the child. While around the parent should take a rather passive role and should stay in the background.

Day 6

Before breakfast till 11:15 AM

In case the previous days went well the parent will say goodbye already before breakfast and will come back at 11:15 AM. If this separation works the availability of the parent in the group is no longer needed.

The first time the child can stay for a midday nap will be decided individually depending on the first weeks of acclimatization. Only if a very good contact to the teacher is established and the child feels secure the nap in the facility can be carefully introduced. This task can take several weeks.
